    Devipatan  Temple (Maa Pateshawari Devi)

    The famous Pateshwari Devi Temple is located 28 km north of Balarampur and 1.6 km northwest of Tulsipur Railway Station. It is considered one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India.
    According to legend, when Lord Shiva was wandering with Sati’s body after her self-immolation, Lord Vishnu used his chakra to divide her body into 51 parts, her right shoulder (pat) fell at this site. Since then, this place has been revered as a Shakti Peetha and is known as Pateshwari Devi Temple.

    The temple complex features a sacred pond called Surya Kund, believed to have been built by Karna, a hero of the Mahabharata, in memory of his father, the Sun God. Devotees bathe in this kund before worshiping the goddess.

    Bijlipur Temple

    The temple is located about 5 km from Balrampur on the Balrampur-Tulsipur road. The artistic temple, made of brown stones, is dedicated to Vijayeshwari Devi and was built by Maharaja Digvijay Singh in the 19th century (1832) after his victory over Tulsipur, attributing his success to the goddess’s blessings. According to another legend, the temple was built on the site where Baba Jayaram Bharti, a devotee, received a divine vision from the goddess, instructing him to worship her there, after which the king constructed the temple.

    Jharkhandi Temple

    Located near Jharkhandi Railway Station, this temple is believed to have originated when a Shivling was discovered during the construction of the railway line in British era. The name ‘Jharkhandi’ is derived from the dense forest (jharkhand) that once surrounded the area. Today, it’s a prominent pilgrimage site and tourist attraction.

    Chittorgarh Dam

    The Chittorgarh Dam, nestled 68 km from Balrampur’s main town, is a picturesque spot. The Chittorgarh reservoir built in Pipri Bangarh situated on the India-Nepal border is a unique example of natural art. The Chittorgarh reservoir is the confluence of the hill streams of Nepal and India. The water of many small streams including the hill stream Bhambhar, Dara, Musi, Ghughror and Hamsoti Naka collects in this reservoir.

    Suhelwa Wildlife Sanctuary

    This Suhel Dev Wildlife Sanctuary spread over 452 sq. km. on India Nepal border in Balrampur and Shravasti districts is an important habitat of Royal Bengal Tiger. It was established in 1988. Along with this, 220 km. buffer zone is also included. The entire wildlife sanctuary and its buffer zone is situated on the international border from east to west in the form of a strip of natural forests about 120 km. long and 6-8 km. wide.

    This wildlife sanctuary includes Tulsipur, Barhawa, Bankatwa, Eastern Suhelwa and Western Suhelwa and the buffer zone includes Bhabhar and Rampur ranges. The major flora species found here are Sal, Sheesham, Khair, Teak, Dhoop etc. and the wildlife species found here are Tiger, Leopard, Jackal, Hyena, Sambhar, Monkey, Langur, Python, Partridge, Quail, Peacock, Hornbill, Bluethroat, Woodpecker etc.
    In this Bihar, Chittorgarh, Kohargaddi, Girigitti Khairaman and Rajiyatal etc. reservoirs are also located which attract various birds and wild animals including everyone.

    The first tribal museum of Uttar Pradesh or Tharu Janjati Sangrahalaya, which was one of the pet projects of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ji, is built in Imilia Kodar village, a Tharu populated area of Balrampur district.
    Tharus are an indigenous ethnic group and live in the Terai region of India. They are known for their love for nature and are followers of Theravada Buddhism. The tribe is famous for its distinctive dress and dance. Visit Tharu tribal areas and stay with Tharu families, participate in daily activities and learn about their traditions. Tharu culture is rich in tradition, music, dance and art, giving the Tharu people a distinct identity.
    Apart from Dashain and Tihar, Tharus celebrate Madhi, Jitiya and other festivals with pomp and circumstance.
