During the winter season, the severe cold and fog in the district increase the likelihood of various diseases and pest infestations in crops. In view of this, the Agriculture Department has advised farmers to remain vigilant and take necessary control measures in a timely manner.
The District Agriculture Protection Officer stated that farmers should regularly monitor their crops such as mustard, gram, peas, lentils, wheat, and vegetables. Mustard crops are particularly susceptible to aphid and other insect infestations, for the control of which, it is advised to spray 0.750 liters of Dimethoate 30 EC mixed in 400-500 liters of water per hectare.
Pea and lentil crops may experience an increase in whitefly and disease outbreaks. For their control, the use of Carbendazim or other recommended insecticides is advised.
Wheat crops often show a high prevalence of narrow-leaved and broad-leaved weeds such as wild oats and wild wheat. To control these, it is recommended to use herbicides such as Sulfosulfuron or Clodinafop in the prescribed quantities.
The Agriculture Department has appealed to farmers to contact the department promptly in case of any disease or pest outbreak. Farmers can send photos of their field problems to WhatsApp numbers 9452247111 or 9452257111 to get solutions.

Considering the prevailing extreme cold and cold wave, the District Magistrate has declared a holiday for students of classes 1 to 8 in all government, council, aided, and board-affiliated schools in the district from December 24, 2025 to December 26, 2025.

On the occasion of the birth anniversary (December 23) of former Prime Minister and “Bharat Ratna” recipient, late Chaudhary Charan Singh, “Kisan Samman Diwas” (Farmers’ Honour Day) will be organized in Balrampur district. On this occasion, an agricultural exhibition and farmer awareness program will be held on December 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM onwards at the Vikas Bhawan premises in Balrampur.
During the program, experts from the Agriculture Department will provide farmers with information on modern agricultural techniques, improved seeds, fertilizers, crop protection, irrigation systems, soil health, and various government schemes related to agriculture, so that farmers can avail maximum benefit from these schemes.

The Chief Development Officer stated that through the program organized on Kisan Samman Diwas, farmers will be provided with information about various schemes of the Agriculture Department, modern techniques, and innovations, enabling them to benefit from these initiatives.
Stalls will be set up at the program venue by the Agriculture Department and various allied departments, through which farmers can directly interact with experts and get solutions to their problems. The objective of this event is to increase farmers’ income, enhance productivity, and connect them with the latest agricultural technologies.
The district administration has instructed all concerned departments to ensure the necessary arrangements for the successful conduct of the program. Farmers from across the district are urged to participate in the program in large numbers.
